Battle of the Cabs Guidelines for Individual, Small party or Meet-up Group

  1. Register at www.BattleoftheCabs.com

  2. To begin your Battle of The Cabs wine tasting party planning, you will need to decide what  Cabernets to vote on. Keep them all in the same price range. Under $10.00,$20.00,$25.00,$30.00,$40.00,$50.00, $60.00,$70.00, $80.00, $ and under $100.00.   Some parties will have guest bring the wines.

  3. Determine your guest list and send invites at least two weeks before your tasting (you may consider utilizing free online invites through: evite.com). You might ask each guest to contribute 1 bottle of their favorite Cabs in your price catagory.

  4. Print out our tasting Cards for each guest. Have them rate the wines.

  5. Place the wines in brown paper wine bags and mark 1-? On the bag and tape up the neck. It is good to have a few spare brown bags in case you tear one. Most wine groups limit the competition to 5 wines. We only have space to score the top 5 wines from each event.

  6. Decorations. This is election year so many groups will decorate in red white and blue. Many events will happen on election evening.

  7. Report the results to www.BattleofTheCabs.com

  8. Make your donation.  We request that you donate $5.00 per person minimum directly to this year’s charity.  You can send more or less.  The minimum donation is $50.00 per event to have results count in the national election and to have your own permanent results page complete with photo of the event and  description.

  9. Send a check to this year’s charity. Please make your check payable to Greensburg Greentown and put Bacchus and your chapter or city in the memo area.

Greensburg GreenTown is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to provide the residents of Greensburg, Kansas with the  resources, information and support they need to rebuild Greensburg as a model green community following the May 2007 tornado.

Tips:

  1. The general rule of thumb for determining how much wine to pour per person is: 2 ounces of wine per glass, per wine for each tasting.

  2. Providing plain bread and water between wines, allows for guests to cleanse their palate and sets them up to fully experience the next wine.

What You Need:
          o Four to Six Wines
o Appetizers - you might consider offering some light munchies before the tasting
o Loaf of bread – provide plain bread for guests to cleanse palate between wines
o Wine glasses – one per guest
o Pitcher of water – for rinsing glasses and palates between wines
o Dump bucket – for discarding wine before next pouring
o Tasting cards – for describing and recording each wine tasted
o brown bags to cover wine bottles.
          o Pens
o Humor – encourage your guests to share their thoughts and humor on each wine
